About the Organization:
The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) provides care, comfort and compassion to animals in need while engaging the hearts, hands and minds of our community to bring about an end to the killing of abandoned and orphaned shelter animals.
JHS is a local, independent, 501c3 non-profit animal shelter in Jacksonville, Florida. We are the largest full-service animal welfare organization in our region and care for nearly 9,000 dogs and cats each year. JHS offers a wide range of community programs including pet adoption, support for pet owners, resources for lost and found animals, training classes, humane education programs for youth, and more.
Fun Fact:
JHS is the second oldest nonprofit in Jacksonville! We were founded in 1885 and have been helping pets and people in northeast Florida for over 130 years.
Proposed Project: Pet Food Drive
Project Description:
JHS offers a pet food bank every weekend that provides over 50,000 pounds of free dog and cat food to thousands of families every year. We would love for you to organize a pet food drive to help us stock our food bank shelves! We can accept both wet and dry dog and cat food, all brands and varieties. Smaller bags of dry food are preferred, as they are easier for people to carry.
How to get started:
- Create flyers with a list of the items you are collecting and where you plan on donating the supplies collected (JHS!). Don't forget to
choose a start date and an end date!
- Post flyers around your community, school, etc.
- Optional: leave out a box or bin to collect items - make sure people know where it is.
How to donate:
- You can drop the items off at JHS between 12-7 Monday-Friday and between 10-5 Saturday-Sunday.
- No need to schedule a drop-off day or time!
Don't forget:
Get a group photo with the supplies donated and email the pictures along with your organization/group name to education@jaxhumane.org. We love to share all the great work your group/organization did for the animals at JHS!
